Data License
Licensing information for data accessed through the Apiar Data platform.
Overview
Apiar Data aggregates data from a wide range of sources, each governed by its own licensing terms. This page describes the general licensing framework. Individual dataset pages on the Platform display source-specific licensing information where relevant.
Before using data obtained through the Platform in publications, products, or commercial applications, please review the applicable licence for the specific dataset.
Public Domain & Open Data
A significant portion of data on the Platform originates from official government statistical agencies, international organisations, and open data initiatives. This data is typically released under one of the following frameworks:
- Public domain: No copyright restriction; free to use without attribution (e.g., US federal government data)
- Creative Commons CC BY 4.0: Free to use with attribution to the original source
- Open Government Licence (OGL): UK and other national open data licences permitting free reuse with attribution
The original source and applicable licence are displayed on each dataset page.
Licensed Third-Party Data
Some datasets on the Platform are sourced from third-party commercial or institutional providers under specific licence agreements. Use of this data may be restricted to:
- Non-commercial research and analysis
- Internal business use only
- Specific geographic markets
Datasets with restricted licences are clearly labelled on their dataset pages. Users are responsible for complying with the applicable third-party licence terms.
Apiar Derived Data
Apiar Data creates derived datasets through normalisation, harmonisation, and enrichment of source data. These derived datasets, along with Apiar’s proprietary indices and composite metrics, are licensed under the Apiar Open Data Licence, which permits:
- Free use for non-commercial research and personal analysis
- Sharing with attribution: “Source: Apiar Data (apiardata.com)”
- Inclusion in academic publications with proper citation
Commercial redistribution of Apiar derived data requires a separate commercial licence. Contact daniel@davia.ventures for licensing terms.
Attribution Requirements
When using data from the Platform in publications, reports, or products, we ask that you use the following attribution format:
[Dataset Name]. [Original Source]. Accessed via Apiar Data (apiardata.com), [Year].
For Apiar-derived data or composite indices, the attribution should read:
[Metric Name]. Apiar Data (apiardata.com), [Year].
Commercial Use
Commercial use of data obtained through the Platform is subject to the applicable source licence and, where relevant, an Apiar commercial licence. Commercial use includes:
- Incorporating data into products or services sold to third parties
- Using data in commercial financial models or investment products
- Bulk redistribution of datasets
For commercial licensing arrangements, contact daniel@davia.ventures with a description of your intended use.
